What's a 6.0 Ford Powerstroke Delete kit?
A 6.0 Powerstroke Delete kit is a performance upgrade designed to eliminate the factory EGR system.
This 6.0 Powerstroke EGR Delete Kit removes the restrictive EGR Cooler, improving airflow, reducing soot buildup, and preventing common coolant-related engine failures.
What's Included in a 6.0 Powerstroke Delete kit?
Each 6.0 Powerstroke All-in-One Kit includes EGR block-off plates to eliminate cooler failures and prevent head gasket failure under elevated cylinder pressure.
- EGR Delete: A stainless steel bypass pipe to replace the failure-prone factory EGR cooler delete component.
- Block-off Plates: High-grade plates and hardware to seal the intake manifold from soot and hot exhaust.
- Tuning: Optional software tuner support to disable EGR sensors and clear the Check Engine Light (CEL).
Key Benefits of Installing a 6.0 Powerstroke Delete kit
- Reliability: Eliminate the EGR cooler to prevent coolant leaks and head gasket failure under elevated cylinder pressure.
- Engine Longevity: Stop soot recirculation to keep your oil clean and intake clear.
- Lower Maintenance: End expensive EGR valve cleanings and repetitive cooler repairs.
- Better Cooling: Reduce engine temperatures by removing the restrictive EGR system.
- Performance: Experience smoother power delivery and improved throttle response.
6.0 Powerstroke Delete kit: Deleted vs. Stock
| Dimension |
Stock (Factory) |
Deleted (Upgraded) |
| Horsepower |
Limited by factory tuning; prone to heat soak. |
Increased; With proper tuning and supporting modifications, power gains of 50–120+ HP are achievable. |
| Fuel Economy |
Average; efficiency is lost to EGR heat and soot. |
Improved; better airflow typically gains 1–3 MPG and improved fuel efficiency. |
| Maintenance Cost |
Very High; frequent EGR valve cleaning and repairs. |
Reduced; eliminates the primary cause of engine repair. |
| Reliability |
Low; EGR cooler leaks cause head gasket failure. |
Significantly Enhanced; removes the #1 failure point. |
| Exhaust Gas Temp |
High; EGR gases heat the intake air significantly. |
Lower EGTs; engine breathes cooler, cleaner air. |
| Legal Status |
Street Legal; EPA compliant. |
Off-Road / Competition Use Only. |

How to Install a 6.0 Powerstroke Delete kit
Installing a 6.0 Powerstroke Delete kit is a fundamental part of bulletproofing the 2003–2007 Ford Super Duty.
Installation Steps
- PCM Recalibration (Tuning): Flash the PCM first to disable EGR sensors and prevent CEL codes.
- Accessing the EGR Cooler: Remove intake manifold components to reach the cooler in the engine valley.
- Hardware Removal & Replacement: Install the stainless steel EGR delete pipe and intake block-off plates.
- Oil Cooler Inspection: Replace clogged oil coolers to prevent future EGR cooler rupture.
- Final Assembly: Refill coolant and verify stable engine temperatures during test drive.

FAQ
Do I need a DPF delete pipe for my 6.0 Powerstroke?
No. The 6.0L Powerstroke (2003–2007) was manufactured before the EPA required Diesel Particulate Filters. It does not have a DPF or a SCR (DEF/urea) system. A 6.0L delete refers exclusively to the EGR system.
Will a 6.0L delete kit fix my check engine light?
If your light is caused by EGR flow or sensor codes (P0401, P0402, P0404), a delete kit combined with a tuner will clear these permanently. However, you must use a tuner to turn off the EGR system in the computer, or a new code will trigger once the hardware is removed.
Should I replace my Oil Cooler at the same time?
Yes, highly recommended. In most 6.0L engines, the oil cooler clogs first, which starves the EGR cooler of coolant and causes it to rupture. Since you already have the engine disassembled to install the delete kit, replacing the oil cooler is the best way to bulletproof the system.
