Why does my LLY Duramax overheat so easily when towing?

The primary culprit is the factory turbo intake mouthpiece. It is heavily restricted and starves the turbo of air, forcing the engine to work harder and generate massive amounts of heat. Upgrading to a high-flow mouthpiece, combined with an EGR delete and high-flow exhaust, will drastically lower your temperatures and solve the chronic overheating issue.

Can I use 2006 parts on my 2004.5-2005 LLY?

Generally, no. While the 2006 model year technically had an LLY option, the 2006 LLY is mechanically identical to the LBZ. The 2004.5-2005 LLY has completely different intake routing, electronics, and EGR mounting points. Always filter by 2004.5-2005 LLY on EngineGo to ensure perfect fitment.

Do I really need a custom tuner if I only delete the EGR on my LLY?

Yes. Physically removing or blocking off the EGR system will cause the factory ECM to detect an emissions fault, throwing a Check Engine Light. A tuner is required to turn off the EGR parameters electronically and optimize the engine for the new, unobstructed airflow.
